i start library skül soon
September 4, 2006well after two years spent finishing up what was almost a never-ending bachelor’s degree (in political science and women’s studies, thank you very much) with the singular view of beginning my MLIS, i am now on the eve of my big adventure in library-dom.
i’m nervous about starting school on wednesday (two days of orientation!)
i came back to university after many many years off in the real world with a view to an MLIS degree. being a full-time undergrad for the past two years has been a challenge (especially considering i was 10 years older than some of my classmates – the things kids say these days!) but totally worth it to get to this point.
the application process was stressful en taberouette* because i was on the waiting list at my no. 1 school and had to turn down offers from two other universities (this one, and this one) while keeping all of my fingers and toes crossed that i would not have to leave home (and hubby) for school. but it all worked out in the end, though i have a few more grey hairs these days…
anyway – i realise that it’s almost de rigeur for MLIS students to have a blog, so i appreciate that my little old blog is hardly ground-breaking. along with interesting links to stuff i find, i’ll also be detailing the nitty-gritty of library school, which i found sorely lacking (except for Jason Hammond’s blog which is brilliant) when i was looking for the truth about what the experience would be like.
oh, and this is my first venture in blog-dom, so we’ll see how that goes. i consider myself a bit of a techy, but must admit to being fairly unfamiliar with all the 2.0 stuff out there… so this blog is the first step.
cheers!
